Alana Lily Chocolates & Cakes – Hot air balloon

Class description

In this workshop, the participants will learn to make fluffy clouds as well as a beautiful hot air balloon cake. You’ll create the basket of the balloon, doing a weave effect before tackling the balloon and learning how to cover this unusual shape with a pattern effect and connecting it to your cake. Finally modelling faces and creating different characters by changing hair, adding details and having fun.


  • Covering a cake dummy with fondant
  • Creating a multi-tiered cake
  • How to build up the design
  • Various decorating techniques like e.g. weave effect and clouds
  • How to make a 3D cake topper with inner structure
  • Easy figure modelling to create different characters

At the end of the workshop each participant can take his own cake back home. Please take a transport box with you.
This workshop is performed by Louise Haythornthwaite (UK) and suitable for participants of any level of experience.

Please notice, that the workshop takes place on the first floor of the Stadthalle and does not allow access to the fair. The ticket for the Swiss Cake Festival has to be purchased separately.
